Dolce Nero

Docle Nero is born, a sweet wine unlike any other.

Black as charcoal formed in an inferno but sweet as only grapes dried in the sun of Sicily could be. A wine from over-matured Nero d'Avola grapes, obtained with the same vinification techniques of the great passiti wines. The wine was worked entirely by hand, removing each individual grape from their clusters and removing any remaining stems.

Our determination to achieve perfection has meant that an incredible amount of work was involved, to the point that some would say the entire enterprise was an almost foolish (...and undoubtetly costly) adventure. However, we feel vindicated in the results - much better than our most optimistic expectations. The wine contains within it the strength, structure and arrogance that only the "best in its class" can carry. At the same time, the sweetness of the grapes slowly ripened in the sun reveals an unexpected softness.

In Dolce Nero we have a concetrate of Sicily - all the violence and tenderness of my intensely loved and hated island. Prunes and berries, drowned in absolute blackness. A dessert wine born exclusively through hard manual labour combined with the knowledge of our enologist, Rizzo, and the magical virtues of our vines that have long now surpassed their fiftieth year of life.
